Not A Bad Weekend

Saturday started off as a great day, I stayed home and read most of the morning, and tried some blueberry Pepsi (It sounds gross but it has real blueberry juice and it’s actually really good).

Later, I was bored, so I decided I would take a trip to the shoe store. The closest one to my house in the mall, it’s a Shoe Department Encore that just got there not long ago. After looking through a warehouse sized shoe store, spending way more than intended at Bath and Body Works, getting some tea at Panera, and getting absolutely soaked in a down pour we didn’t know was coming, I made it back home.

Shoes and body spray from the mall.

I love the Houston sandal style shoe and I was happy to see they had several styles in many colours. They had a navy blue pair I absolutely despised and a nude pair I really liked. In the end I decided on the red pair, since I have quite a few black dresses that I thought they might go with. I was very excited to see they were only $20, so I had to get them!

Fast forward a few minutes to when we were passing Bath and Body Works. One can not simply pass Bath and Body Works and not go in, at least to smell the new scents. Of course, they had a buy three get three free sale, which they usually have. So, of course, we had to buy three. There were three of us there, me, my mom, and my sister, so we each got three scents. I was looking at there new summer scents, and really liked the Bali Black Coconut Sands because it smells like coconut cream pie. After walking around for a little while, I finally found it in a body spray, which is what I really wanted.

I still needed another item though and my sister was looking at a floral scent called One In A Million that I hadn’t seen before. Long story short, I thought it smelled pretty good and got it.

So in the end I came home with a pair of shoes, two body sprays, a ginger hibiscus tea, and soaking wet clothes. Hope you had a great weekend too! Be sure to check out my newest Instagram post showing my newest books! I’ll be sure to have some reviews written for them as soon as I get them read, and I’ll update you on my progress via goodreads.

The Witch Of Willow Hall Review

This is not usually the type of book I read, but I had heard good things about it, so I decided I would try it anyway, and I’m glad I did. The book The Witch of Willow Hall by Hester Fox feels very much like Pride & Prejudice with a bit of a supernatural element mixed in. The novel is historical fiction with a few witches that give it the fictional twist I so love in books.

The story is about a young woman named Lydia, the last witch of her family. She lives a few hundred years after the Salem witch trials but she doesn’t yet know she is a witch. The story is about her family’s struggle after a scandal forces them to move out of Boston and to New Oldbury. Lydia and her family don’t seem to like their new home so much, but it changes when Lydia’s father’s business partner, John Barrett, falls into the picture.

The book is an amazing romance, with a bit of ghosts and witches. Hester Fox did an amazing job of creating characters that the reader can love and feel almost as if they know. I really enjoyed the book, and I hope you do too.

Red Queen Review

I started reading this book a few weeks ago because there was a Kindle sale, so I had the ebook copy. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard is one I’ve been wanting to read for a while, so I was very excited to read it.

Red Queen is the first in the series.

I really enjoyed the book, and read it in two days. The story is about two groups of people who live completely divided. The Reds, poor commoners who live in cramped villages, and Silvers. Silvers are like the royalty of Norta, the kingdom in the book. They are the richest, and they posses special abilities that Reds can’t do. The main difference between the two groups is the colour of their blood. The Reds have red blood, and the Silver have silver blood.

Mare Barrow, the main character, is a Red who lives in one of these poor Red villages, but everything changes for her when she meets a mysterious stranger one night who helps her out. She gets a job working at the Silver’s palace. but then everything go wrong. On Mare’s first day, a terrible accident causes Mare to find hidden lightning abilities she didn’t know she had. This scares the royals because there is a Red with Silver abilities.

The rest of the story is about Mare’s challenge of hiding her Red heritage and learning to control her Silver ability. The story was very well written, and I was instantly sucked in. I just finished the second one in the series Glass Sword today, actually not even an hour ago, so it’s on to the next one, King’s Cage. I’ll be sure to update you through goodreads.

The second book in the series.

Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children Series

This series is my all time favourite. I love the mix of fantasy, realistic fiction, and adventure. This series is Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. The series contains four books, Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children, Hollow City, The Library Of Souls, and Map Of Days.

The first book in the series.

In first book, a normal boy named Jake Portman from Florida discovers a large secret after his grandfather passed away. He learns that the world he knows is full of people with special powers, just like him. When he travels back in time, he learns his grandfather was connected to this whole new world. Will he figure out what really happened to his grandfather, we he be able to handle the truth, or will he go back to being an average teen? In the next two books, the adventure continues with new friends, traveling through new loops to find a lost friend, and save the world.

The second book in the series.

The whole series was a great read and was my favourite series for the longest time. I know there is now a new book out, Map Of Days, which I have, but I haven’t yet read it. Be sure to check my progress on goodreads, and I’ll post a review when I finish it!

The third book in the series.

A Very Happy Easter

I started the day off with a rockin’ outfit-that you can be sure to check out on my earlier post-and now…it’s time to read the new book I received!

I learned long ago that a great Easter consists of lots of candy, and a new book. So today, my new book is We Rule The Night by Claire Eliza Bartlett. I had never heard of it before, but I was still excited to read it! It seems very interesting, and I’m always up for strong female protagonists. Be sure to check my progress on goodreads and I’ll post a review when I finish it.

Besides this great new book, I was also happy to receive EOS’s new spring flavours! These are Tropical Escape, and Voyage Tropical. They smell very fruity, and both have a strong hint of coconut. I think I’m going to enjoy using them.

I was also happy to receive some other little Easter goodies such as a duo flower lip gloss, and a gudetama plush blind box (in which I got Emo).

I hope the rest of your Easter is fantastic! I can’t wait to read my new book, and I’ll be sure to update you all when I do!

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter everyone! I hope you have a great Sunday, and enjoy the holiday with your family! Today I have my beautiful Easter outfit to share with you, and how I purchased it all just the day before!

I’m good at procrastinating, and I definitely did this year. I didn’t even start looking for an Easter outfit until yesterday. I spent most of my day looking for a dress and shoes, and didn’t have any luck until almost 4:00pm.

I spent my morning at home with a homemade salted caramel latte, and the book I’m currently reading, Silence the third book in the Hush Hush series by Becca Fitzpatrick. Then I headed to Jcpenney because they usually have an abundance of dresses, and I’d been there with a friend just the day before and had seen some bright coloured dresses. I didn’t have any luck there, everything I picked either fit my stomach strange, or was too open.

After lunch I got started again and headed to Kohl’s where I’ve had luck in the past. However, since the last time I’d been to the Kohl’s near me, it had gone way downhill. The store was very cluttered, and everything was hard to find. I had no luck there either. Next I went to Ross, but didn’t have any luck there. I also went to Famous Footwear, hoping to find some shoes, but they only had twine wrapped wedges, and I’m really not that into that latest trend.

So I went home to look online for some more stores where I could look for dresses. I found a Dress Barn not that far from my house, so I decided to try there. I finally had some luck!

The purse and shoes are a hot pink, they look maroon because of the background, sorry!

I found a Calvin Klein dress that I really liked because it flows and has a more summer looking floral pattern. With the sale price, it ended up being only $50. I also found some pretty silver earrings that were $12 that I thought would go with the dress.

Then off to Target to look for some shoes that matched. I knew I probably needed white shoes, but I really don’t like white shoes. Target didn’t have any white shoes at all, so I decided to try one last place, DSW.

When I first walked in, I found a beautiful pair of pointed toe heels with criss-cross straps. They were hot pink, and I wasn’t sure at first, but I decided hot pink would look fine with my green dress. Sadly, they didn’t fit right, the toe was too tight while the straps were too big, so I decided to try another pair of heels that I liked a little bit more, in the same colour. These worked perfectly and were only $45! So I ended up with the second pair.

The whole store was BOGO half off, and they had a cute handbag that was the same colour as my shoes. It was originally $30, but with the half off, it was only $15, and matched my outfit perfectly, so I had to get it.

I ended up rocking Easter, and I hope you did too with your equally amazing outfits! Happy Easter everyone!

A New Read

I was at Target today, and of course, looked at the books. Most of the YA books Target currently has, I already have, but I found a new one today. I hadn’t heard of The Mortal Engines by Philip Reeve until I saw the movie. I usually like to read the book first and then watch the movie if there is one, but in this case, I didn’t know it was a book until after I watched the movie.

The Mortal Engines by Philip Reeve

Target has 20% off cover price on most of their books, making it only $8, which is a really good price for a book. It is a movie cover, and I usually prefer not to get movie covers, rather the original covers, but they only had the movie cover, and it was a great price that I know I won’t find in a book store, so I went ahead and bought it.

I can’t wait to read it, and I’ll update you on my progress via goodreads. I’ll be sure to post a review once I’ve read it, but it may be a while, because my tbr list is very long.

Fun Florals

While out shopping for some Easter outfit accessories, I found some great deals on awesome floral items! As many of you know, Payless is going out of business, so most of the store was on sale. We went into the Payless in our local mall, looking for Easter shoes for my sister. She didn’t happen to find anything, but I sure did. I found a pair of floral heels by Christian Siriano for Payless. They were originally priced at $34.99, but all women’s dress shoes were 50% off, and ended up being $19.02 with tax. I thought this was a great deal for a pair of heels!

Beautiful Christian Siriano heels and bamboo socks.

I went to The Dress Barn as well, to look for a dress. While waiting in line to check out, I saw some socks-I know I have way too many socks-and I loved the pattern and colour. When I picked up the socks, I felt that they were sooooo soft. It turns out, they were made with bamboo, causing them to be extra soft. It was only $4 per pair, so I had to get them!

Throne Of Glass Review

I started reading this series in December, and just finished the whole thing about a month ago. I guess I did rather good and read quickly. I had heard about it from a friends quite a while ago, but I hadn’t tried it. I did however discover A Court Of Thorns And Roses and the entire series by Sarah J. Maas. I absolutely loved it. After I finished the series, I decided to try Throne Of Glass because it was also by Sarah J. Maas. I fell in love with it immediately.

The story is about a young assassin named Celaena Sardothien, who is freed from slavery in the salt mines of Endovier by a young prince. The young prince, Dorian Havilliard, and his best friend and Captain of the Guard, Chaol Westfall have come to free Celaena from the salt mines, in order for her to compete in a competition to be the King’s Champion. Celaena will only be freed for good if she wins the competition, naming her Champion to the King, and making her Adarlan’s greatest assassin.

The story is very well written, and intriguing from the beginning-as is any other Sarah J. Maas book. The swaggering arrogance Celaena shows is hard not to love, and the twisted pasts of the other main characters make them even more lovable. Throne Of Glass instantly added the series on to my list of top favourites.

In the process of reading it, I had a lot of fun with it…and I think my family did too!

My sister (Nia) pictured in the photo.

Making the throne for Throne of Glass was so much fun! It took three people, several boxes, and over a hundred books in various genres to make! But overall it was way dramatic and I think Celaena would be proud!

Bolingbrook Evening

Yesterday was a fun day off spent hanging out at the mall with a friend, but after a long day of shopping I needed to rewind…by shopping! We started off our night with a delicious dinner at Rock Bottom at the Bolingbrook Promenade in Bolingbrook IL. After our dinner, we headed over to a large Barns&Nobel in the promenade. I obviously found plenty of books I wanted to buy, but I decided on just two. I decided on Crown Of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas, and Heir Of Fire also by Sarah J. Maas.

Yes I’ve already read the entire series digitally, but now it’s time to get physical copies of the whole series. So far I have the entire series-some in hardcover, some paperback-except Queen Of Shadows. I decided to get the second and third book, so I was going in order, that way I’d only need the fourth book to complete the series. I know I’ll be back at a bookstore soon, so it won’t be long until the series is complete.

Like the Throne Of Glass series? Check out my review on the first book!

While I was there I was checking out some clearance-which was only 30% off-and they seemed to have lots of Sanrio and San X merchandise on clearance. So of course when I found a small Pom Pom Purin change purse I had to get it. It was $4.20 for a silicone change purse, but it was too cute to pass up.
